Summer Camp AU: Post 1
Aug. 13th, 2018 06:54 pmEvie hadn't been there for orientation, mostly because the nineteen year old girl had Last Minute School stuff to finish, and partly because she'd been in the Counselor Cabin taking stock of supplies and preparing to make a run. She was told to wait, however, for the newest counselor to Camp Brookeside, so she could show him how things worked at camp. He'd already gotten the grand tour from Peter Parker so what Evie was doing wasn't really showing him around. Supply runs were always done in pairs and Jack was selected to accompany her.
Someone somewhere thought it was wise to send a new guy with a seasoned pro, even if Evie had only been head counselor in a cabin for two years. So now she was waiting in the cabin, taking stock and making notes of what they needed, what they didn't. Making sure Jack's locker in the cabin was clean and labeled with his name.
And trying to not feel overly impatient. Whoever this guy was, he was running a tiny bit late and that wasn't exactly points in his favor.
When he does finally show, she'll be seated on one of the couches, her back towards the door and her long, blue hair hanging down her back in twists and curls, tucked into a neat ponytail just at the base of her skull, her long fingers typing away at the Facebook for the camp, keeping parents updated on what the theme for the weeks were and posting First Day Photos taken by one Peter Parker. So, unfortunately for her, she'll have the terrible luck of not seeing who walked in.
If only she'd known.
See, a few weeks ago when she and Mal had been out shopping for their two months at camp, they'd had a run in with some dark haired, blue eyed guy who'd flirted with her. Much to her annoyance, due in no small part to a very recent break-up with her boyfriend of two years after a discovered affair. And due in part to the fact that the shopping for their two months at camp was technically working. As good-looking as the guy was, Evie wasn't having it and had been cold to him, much to his amusement.
("Please, go away. I'm working." as she ran her fingers down a checklist, making sure she had everything.)
And when they'd finally parted ways with the guy, Mal had teased her relentlessly, Evie had loaded up the car to go home, and that was the last thought she'd given to that mess.
For now. Fate probably had other plans, or someone somewhere just really liked to see Evie squirm, because the second the door to the camper's headquarters shut and Evie'd put that last photo on the Facebook page, she spoke without really looking at who she was speaking to.
"Give me five minutes, and then we'll head out."
